Man gets 7-year RI

CHENNAI: A man accused of attempting to murder his brother-in-law was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a fast track court here on Monday.

According to police sources, A.David (28) of Durairaj Nagar, Aminjikarai, often quarrelled with his wife D.Malathi (25) suspecting her fidelity.

On May 15 last year, the woman lodged a complaint with the All Women Police Station in Anna Nagar accusing David of harassment.

Fearing attack on Malathi, her brother M.Selvaraj (20) stayed with her.

A week later, David came home with a bottle containing acid. On seeing Selvaraj, he threw acid on his face and hacked him indiscriminately with a sickle.

The victim was admitted to the Government General Hospital where he underwent treatment for many days.

Special team

A special team of the Aminjikarai police led by Inspector S.Anantharaman arrested David and investigated the case.

The second fast track court judge R.Ravindra Bose who heard the case sentenced David to undergo seven years RI, the sources added.
