Wadhera to coach Pakistan juniors

NEW DELHI: Tennis coach Birbal Wadhera of Chandigarh will be conducting a three-week clinic for the top juniors of Pakistan in Islamabad from May 5.

The 31-year-old coach confirmed that the he had got the visa for Pakistan and was waiting for the air tickets from the Pakistan Tennis Federation. He has been scheduled to leave on May 4, and return by June 8. He also expected to do a 10-day stint in other centres including Lahore to promote the game among the youngsters.

He said that the top-10 boys and top-five girls of Pakistan would be attending the training camp in Islamabad. Birbal had done a similar stint in Pakistan a few years ago. He had been the travelling coach of India players Divij Sharan, Navdeep Singh and Prerna Mythri, but has been focusing on coaching at various centres back home in Chandigarh in recent times.

He was a coach at the National Tennis Academy (NTA) at Gurgaon when Somdev Devvarman was part of a bunch of talented youngsters trying to get invaluable tennis education at the centre. — Special Correspondent
