Law college to be named after Siddappa Kambali

Staff Correspondent

DHARWAD: Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD), has decided to name University Law College after the eminent educationist and former Minister in the Bombay Provincial Government, Sir Siddappa Kambali.

Rich tributes were paid at a function held in connection with the 53rd death anniversary of Sir Kambali on the KUD campus here on Tuesday.

KUD Vice-Chancellor H.B. Walikar said naming University Law College after Sir Kambali would be a befitting tribute to that great person who strived for the overall development of the city and the university during his time.

Earlier, Karnatak College, Dharwad (KDC), was meant to be named after Sir Kambali, but as the KCD was well-known by its original name everywhere, it was decided that naming the law college after him would be more appropriate, he said.

Mr. Walikar said Sir Kambali had emerged as a saviour when the then Bombay Provincial Government decided to close down the university citing low strength of students.

Sir Kambali, who was an influential Minister handling as many seven portfolios, opposed the government's decision and threatened to resign if it stuck to its decision.
