Thiruvananthapuram: The annual Urus festival at the Beemapally Dargah Shareef here will begin on May 5 with a prayer and a procession led by Alhaj K.M. Hassan Ashrafi Al Baquavi, Chief Imam of the Beemapally Muslim Jama-ath. Jamaath president U. Haja Muhammed will hoist the flag to mark the commencement of ceremonies. The 11-day Urus is held to commemorate the death anniversary of Saint Sayyidhathunissa Beema Beevi and her son Ashaikhu Sayidushaheed Maheen Aboobaker who were laid to rest at the Dargah Shereef. Religious discourses by Muslim scholars, cultural performances and prayer meetings will be held during the event, Jamaath president U. Haja Muhammed and general secretary M. Mohammed Iqbal told reporters hereThe Kerala State Road Transport Corporation would operate special bus services from Vizhinjam, Poovar, Perumathura, Thampanoor, Pappanamcode and Peroorkada during the festival.
