“Naxals trying to expand base in urban areas”

Staff Reporter

Mumbai: Naxals have formed a Golden Quadrilateral Committee to spread their ideology in urban areas, especially among labourers and students, Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Rakesh Maria said here on Wednesday. He was giving details of the arrest of a woman member of the banned CPI(ML), Angela Sontakke.

“She is a very important senior cadre of the Naxal movement in Maharashtra. She is the member of the Central Committee and the Maharashtra Secretary of the Golden Quadrilateral Committee,” he said.

The ATS arrested Angela Sontakke alias Iskara alias Kavita alias Savita alias Sunita Patil (42) on April 25 in Thane. They also arrested Sushama Hemant Ramteke alias Shraddha Gurav alias Arati from Pune.
