Coimbatore: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested Rajendran, a Superintendent of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) while “demanding and accepting bribe” from an applicant for obtaining sale deed. According to DVAC sources, M. Muthusamy of Tirupur working in a hosiery unit got a plot under the Mudalipalayam scheme. Under the scheme, the allottees of the land will have to pay an Equated Monthly Instalment of Rs. 171 for 10 years with 12 per cent interest. The Government recently introduced a scheme, wherein the allottees could remit the outstanding amount and get interest waived. Accordingly, Mr. Muthusamy remitted the outstanding amount and applied for getting the sale deed. The TNHB Superintendent Rajendran is said to have demanded Rs. 5,000 as bribe for granting the sale deed. The applicant negotiated for Rs. 3,000. On Thursday, a team led by Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (DVAC-Coimbatore) D. Shanmugapriya laid a trap. A case under sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him.
