Manipal: “The groundwork to start a medical college in Abu Dhabi next year is in final stages. On completion of the rest of the formalities, Manipal University will have a campus in Abu Dhabi,” Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NMC Healthcare, Abu Dhabi, UAE, B.R. Shetty, said here on Saturday. Mr. Shetty was speaking at the birth anniversary function of the educationist late Dr. T.M.A. Pai. The Manipal University celebrates this anniversary as the Founders' Day.Dr. Shetty recalled the commitment, dedication and devotion late T.M.A Pai showed to achieve his goals with interesting incidents. His aim was to develop rural areas of the district. “T.M.A. Pai chose remote areas of the region to start schools. He then picked Manipal to start the university”, he said. Honorary Director of Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) M.V. Kamath recalled some of the inherent qualities that defined the late Dr. T.M.A. Pai's humanity. Mr. Kamath's journalistic assignments had taken him the world over, but, he said: “I have not seen a person such as Dr. Pai.” Chancellor of Manipal University Ramdas M. Pai welcomed the gathering. President Academy of General Education Krishna Rao and Registrar of Manipal Uiversity G.K. Prabhu were present. The Founders' Day was celebrated by Manipal University, Academy of General Education, Manipal Media Network, and Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation. Two philanthropists Mohan Bhandarkar and Satish Nayak were felicitated on the occasion. The Founders' Day celebrations began in the morning with bhajans being rendered by flautist Balakrishna Bhat and his team at Madhav Vihar.
