Bhutan's help sought to trace chopper

NEW DELHI: India on Sunday sought Bhutan's help in the search for the helicopter that went missing with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and four others on board on Saturday.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna spoke to Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigme Thinley and sought logistics support for the search being conducted in districts along the border.

Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Pavan Verma said the Bhutanese authorities had been cooperating with India in the search since Saturday.

Sukhoi-30 deployed

Besides 30 columns of the Army and three helicopters, two Sukhoi-30 aircraft fitted with special radars have been deployed.

Union Ministers V. Narayanswamy and Mukul Wasnik left for Itanagar to supervise the search operation.

Speaker Meira Kumar, who met Mr. Khandu only a couple of days ago during a visit to Itanagar, was worried about his safety, sources said. Ms. Kumar kept herself posted with the developments.
