VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials raided hotels, eateries and meat shops in Payakapuram, Ajitsingh Nagar and other areas in the vicinity. They destroyed stale and stored food in the eateries and meat shops on Sunday as a precautionary measure after two diarrhoea cases were reported on Saturday night.

On Sunday, the AMOH Z. Srinivasa Rao, food inspectors, tehsildars formed into four teams to inspect the eateries and meat shops. They destroyed 65 kg of fish, 4 kg of prawns, 95 kg meat, 4 kg idli and bajji.

Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu said that he had asked the officials to take immediate steps to repair the water pipelines that were damaged while laying Under Ground Drainage (UGD) lines. He also said that 14 water tankers were pressed into service to supply drinking water to diarrhoea-affected areas.

In addition to these tankers, the YSR Congress party is also supplying water through another tanker. Mr. Ravi Babu, on Saturday, visited Payakapuram, Santhi Nagar, LBS Nagar, Ajitsingh Nagar, Burma Colony, Nandamuri Nagar, Dabakotlu Centre and surrounding areas.

He instructed the officials to ensure that sewage did not mix with drinking water being supplied by the corporation, and ordered stopping of water supply through pipes for some time in those areas.

He asked people to take treatment at medical camps or Urban Health Centres (UHCs) if they were suffering from vomiting, lose motion or fevers.
