State urged to resume talks with Maoists

GUNTUR: Remote and Interior Areas Development Project (RIAD) Chairman T. Purushottham Rao has said that Maoists have expanded their reach throughout the State and posed a law and order problem. “The State government should invite Maoists for talks. That will be the best course of action to facilitate peace,” he asserted.

Addressing media persons here on Monday, Mr. Purushottham Rao said that Maoist presence was felt in almost all districts and it would be a good thing to resume the peace process of 2004, which came to a naught due to differences between the government and Maoists over the modalities. The situation has improved to some extent but Maoists were still a force to reckon with.

There was a need for trust on both sides to sort out issues through negotiations, for which the government should take a fresh initiative.
