Jalayagnam: State to allocate funds on priority basis
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: With the Congress government reconciling to be realistic about its prestigious Jalayagnam programme, it has decided to give priority in fund allocation to 43 projects that are in various stages of progress and ensure their completion within three years.
Instead of releasing funds on a piece-meal basis to all the 86 irrigation projects ( 44 major projects) under execution, it will be prudent to complete half of them by 2013, which would give tangible results to the farmers by creating new ayacut, said a Finance Department official.
The Jalayagnam programme was launched by late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy for creating an ayacut of 1.27 crore acres by 2014.
