Indian boys defeat Syria

NEW DELHI: Indian boys overpowered Syria and cruised to a 3-0 victory, dropping seven games in all in three matches, in a group ‘D' league encounter of the Asia-Oceania World Junior under-14 tennis tournament at the Sarawak Centre, Kuching, Malaysia, on Tuesday.

The second successive win helped India confirm its place in the quarterfinals. India will meet China to decide the group topper, on the morrow.

The results (league): India bt Syria 3-0 (Sumit Nagal bt Hazem Naw 6-2, 6-1; Garvit Batra bt Kareem Al-Allaf 6-1, 6-0; Sahil Deshmukh and Sumit Nagal bt Kareem Al-Allaf and Hazem Naw 6-2, 6-1). Other results: Group A: Chinese Taipei bt Singapore 3-0; Korea bt Uzbekistan 3-0; Group B: Thailand bt Malaysia 3-0; Australia bt Indonesia 3-0; Group C: Japan bt Sri Lanka 3-0; Hong Kong bt Yemen 2-1; Group D: China bt New Zealand 2-1 .
