Film: Melvilasom (Malayalam) Cast: Suresh Gopi, Parthipan, Thalaivasal Vijay, Asokan. Director: Madhav Ramdas Melvilasom attempts to tell the tale of a soldier who faces racist and casteist taunts from his superiors in the Army. The director has chosen to confine the whole action of the movie to a courtroom where Parthipan (soldier) is facing court-martial proceedings. The scenes are set in real time, and the story is effectively told with well crafted dialogues and riveting performances by the main actors. Soorya Krishnamoorthy's script is able to sustain viewer interest through an element of suspense. The cross-examination of the witnesses brings out the hidden facts, one by one, until the whole truth is out, as in a detective story. Actor Parthipan brilliantly emotes his state of mind. Thalaivasal Vijay as the Colonel and the presiding officer of the court gives an excellent performance, ably supported by Vijay Menon's dubbing. And as the defence counsel prising out the truth through cross- examination, Suresh Gopi's dialogue delivery is impeccable. The character of the boastful military doctor (Asokan) provides comic relief. The camera is cranked by Anand Balakrishnan. The movie is produced under the banner of Mark Movies. G. Jayakumar
