TNPCB officials sealing a dyeing unit on Kongu Main Road in Tirupur on Thursday. Tirupur: The special teams of revenue officials constituted by District Collector C. Samayamoorthy sealed the ‘machinery and premises' of 10 dyeing units in Tirupur knitwear cluster on Thursday following an order issued by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board head office. The TNPCB, in its order, had directed the District Collector to seal the machinery and premises of the units since it had been found that the 10 dyeing units were functioning with alternative power sources despite the power supply being disconnected following the closure of all dyeing units in Tirupur by the Madras High Court. DAT members “Of the 10 dyeing units sealed, four units were members of Dyers Association of Tirupur and the remaining ones were functioning in the unorganised sector,” TNPCB District Environmental Engineer R. Kannan told The Hindu. The sealing of machinery was carried out in the presence of TNPCB officials including Mr. Kannan. The sealing process that started in the morning at a unit operated by a prominent group at Lakshmi Nagar in the heart of the city ended only in the evening. Mr. Kannan said that the sealing of ‘machinery and premises' of two more units found operating illegally during the raids recently, would be carried out shortly. “The TNPCB district unit has already forwarded the inspection report to the head office for necessary action,” he said. The two units were located along Tirupur-Kangeyam and Tirupur-Dharapuram highways.
