HYDERABAD: Health Management and Research Institute (HMRI), in association with Burhani Trust, is offering free ultrasound scanning tests for pregnant women in urban slums in twin cities. Under the project, the HMRI and Burhani Trust also provide health and medical advice to pregnant women. Launched in 2007, the programme covers pregnant women from urban slums located near five government maternity hospitals of Sriramnagar, Jangammet, Amberpet, Lalapet and Panipura. Till date, more than 11,000 pregnant women have already utilised the service, a press release from HMRI on Thursday said. The HMRI has given training to 15 doctors in the skills required to conduct ultrasound scanning and also has the approval of the District Medical and Health Officer to take up such tests. The HMRI authorities in the press release said that in future, the project will be extended to other areas of twin cities. The HMRI officials informed that, under the project, close to Rs. 80 lakh worth of medical services have already been provided to 11,000 pregnant women in twin cities. “The service helps pregnant women save time and money of commuting to hospitals, as the service is being provided at their doorsteps,” the HMRI officials said.
