Restriction on number of persons accompanying winning candidates
Special Correspondent
VILLUPURAM: Candidates who emerge victorious in the Assembly elections should bring only three persons each along with them for getting the winning certificates from the returning officers, according to R. Palanisamy, District Electoral Officer.
He made this observation while addressing officials assigned the task of counting votes polled in the Assembly constituencies such as Ulundurpet, Thirukkoilur, Kallakurichi, Sankarapuram and Rishivandhiyam, here on Thursday.
Mr. Palanisamy said such a measure is being taken to avoid overcrowding in the counting centres.
Though arrangements have been made for ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the counting centres, emergency lamps would be provided at the rate of one for every two counting tables.
For every Assembly segment, 16 tables would be put in the counting centres, 14 for counting the votes polled in the electronic voting machines, one for sorting out the postal votes and another for tallying the results.
