Those disturbing vote counting to be taken to task

Staff Reporter

Namakkal: West Zone IG P. Sivanandi has warned that stringent action would be taken against miscreants who try to disturb the election counting process on May 13.

He made this statement after reviewing security arrangements made at the counting centre at Vivekanandha Educational Institutions for Women in Tiruchengode on Saturday.

The IG said efforts have been taken in full swing to avert incidents like the violence that broke out at Paramathi-Velur Assembly segment on April 13.

53 held

Sivanandi said 53 people were arrested and released only after they had been in custody for 10 days.

He denied that persons watching the spurt of violence were arrested as claimed by a few women of that locality before Collector S. Madumathi.
