9 functionaries of parties fined

VILLUPURAM: Nine functionaries of two political parties, who committed poll rule violations, were booked under the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act in Villupuram district.

They were slapped fine ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 500, according to R. Palanisamy, District Electoral Officer. All of them paid the fine in the respective courts.

In a statement here, Mr. Palanisamy said that while eight of them were functionaries of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Villupuram and Kaanai, the other was a functionary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam at Kiliyoor in Ulundurpet block.

G. Balaji, Villupuram town DMK secretary, was booked in two cases of defacement of public property and fined Rs. 200 in each case. S. Thiruvengadam of the AIADMK was slapped a fine of Rs. 500 for defacement and defying the orders of the public servant (under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code).
