This Day That Age
Instructor Lieutenant M.S. Kohli of the Indian Navy led the Indian expedition to the glory of second success in Nepal Himalayas on May 1, when with two others, he reached the third peak of the many-peaked Annapurna range in failing light. Two others to get to the 24,858-foot “White table” peak were Sonam Gyatso, who is now India's number one climber having already climbed Cho Oyu, world's sixth highest mountain with the first Indian expedition to Nepal Himalayas in 1958, and Girmi, a Nepalese Sherpa. The other members of the team were Capt. A.B. Jungalwala of the Army, chief yeoman of signals K.P. Sharma, Lt. V.S. Shekhawat of the Navy, Flight-Lt. P.C. Chaturvedi of the Air Force and Dr. A.N.D. Nanavati.
