Man killed in accident

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: A man was run over and killed on Saturday, when a driver sped away in his truck in haste following a quarrel with some people at the National Highway at Aingoth near Kanhangad here.

The deceased, C.V. Ravi Kumar, hailed from Mallam near here. Kumar, a trainee driver with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), was travelling in a Kasaragod-bound KSRTC bus after attending a training session at Edappal, KSRTC sources here said

En route, a truck driver refused to give way for the bus and other vehicles to overtake. This continued for some time before a vehicle carrying newspaper bundles overtook the truck and forced it to stop around 2.50 a.m.

When the truck stopped at Aingoth, Kumar joined the bus crew in taking up the issue with the truck driver.

The driver, sensing trouble, tried to speed away in his truck, hitting Kumar in the process. Kumar, who sustained grievous head injury, died before he could be given medical treatment, sources said.

The Kanhangad police have registered a case under Section 304 (Homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
