Daily wage labourer commits suicide

ERODE: A daily wage labourer reportedly immolated himself near Sathyamangalam in Erode district on Saturday.

Police sources said Dhanapal (49), a resident of Govindarajapuram, allegedly poured petrol on his body and set himself afire near his house.

His neighbours rescued him and admitted Dhanapal to Sathyamangalam government hospital with serious burns.

But, he succumbed to burns at the hospital.

Meanwhile, his wife Vasantha claimed that Dhanapal, a DMK member, committed suicide as he could not bear the defeat of his party in the Assembly polls. Sathyamangalam police registered a case.
