Call to remove stigma attached to HIV/AIDS

Staff Correspondent

Mysore: More than 200 people gathered in front of the Town Hall here on Monday evening as part of a candlelight jatha to remember those who had died of HIV/AIDS and express solidarity with the 2.5 lakh persons living with HIV in the State.

The rally was organised as part of International Candlelight Day. The rally gave information about the spread of the disease, the treatment available and the need to respect the rights of affected persons.

Mayor Pushpalatha Chikkanna, who inaugurated the jatha, called upon people to cooperate with various organisations to help create a society where people with HIV/AIDS could live without stigma. Raghukumar, Mysore district AIDS control officer, spoke.
