dated May 18, 1961: Vasudevacharya dead

We regret to record the death of Sangeetha Kalainidhi Mysore Vasudevacharya, well-known composer and musician, on May 17 at his residence in Adyar. He was 96 and the end was almost sudden. Till the last moment, he was speaking to his friends and musicians who were with him. He is survived by his only son. Smt. Rukmini Devi, President of Kalakshetra, called at his residence to pay her respects to the great musician. Mr. P.V. Rajamannar, former Chief Justice of Madras and President of the Sangita Natak Academy, in a message states: “The Grand Old Man of Carnatic Music has passed away leaving a void which can never be filled. He was not only a great musician, but he was also one of the most versatile composers of recent times.”
