“Government does not wish to increase tax for the time being”

Chief Minister seeks concessions for starting industries

Interactive session on implementation of GST held

N. Rangasamy

PUDUCHERRY: There are limits for territorial administration in generating funds through internal resource mobilisation without raising the tax structure. However, the government does not wish to increase the tax for the time being, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Friday.

Participating in an interactive session on the proposed implementation of GST next year, Mr. Rangasamy said it was imperative on the part of the Union Territory to get funds from Centre to carry out development works and welfare schemes. Touching upon the industrial scenario in Puducherry, he said more industries need to be established here for providing jobs to students passing out from local colleges. For this, concessions should be provided for setting up industries.

Besides Mr. Rangasamy, Chief Secretary, R. Chandramohan, and Secretary to Government, Rajiv Yadhuvanshi, attended the inaugural function.

The two-day interactive session, organised jointly by the Commercial Taxes Department and Confederation of Indian Industry, was being attended by officials from the Taxation department and faculty members from various institutions.
