A few low-lying areas such as Railway New Colony partially flooded Several areas experience power cuts VISAKHAPATNAM: After an agonizingly long scorching spell of summer, the city received showers from the early hours of the day on Friday bringing down the temperatures. Heavy rains lashed the city for a brief time in the morning that later turned into a steady drizzle. The rainfall recorded between 0830 hrs and 1130 hrs on Friday at Waltair was 6 cm and at Airport, it was 3 cm. While no major damages to property was reported in the city, a few low lying areas such as Railway New Colony were partially flooded in the morning and several areas in the city experienced power cuts. Thick cloud According to the latest reports from Cyclone Warning Centre, a trough of low pressure lay over Chhattisgarh to South Tamil Nadu across coastal Andhra Pradesh. Associated upper air trough also lay over the same area. A thick cloud mass was observed near South Orissa and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Under its influence, rain or thundershowers are likely at many places over North Coastal AP and at a few places over South Coastal AP during the next 24 hours. Isolated heavy rain may occur over North Coastal AP during the same period. Chief amounts of rainfall recorded at a few places in the region ending at 0830 hrs of Friday are: Veeraghattam – 10 cm, Kalingapatnam – 8 cm, Ranasthalam, Palakonda – 5 cm each, Mandasa, Palasa – 3 cm each.
