KOLLAM: Two youths, allegedly involved in many chain-snatching cases, were nabbed by a team from the Karunagapally police led by Sub Inspector G. Gopakumar. The two were identified by the police as Anish, 29, native of Kulasekharapuram, and Riaz 22, from Vallikunnnam, both in the district. Mr. Gopakumar said that Anish had been arrested last year on charges of snatching a chain at knifepoint from the granddaughter of the former minister P.K. Gurudasan at her house at Ashtamudi near here. They are involved in more than forty chain-snatching cases. The two went about snatching chains on stolen motorcycles. Mr. Gopakumar said that it was on the basis of a tip-off received by the Karungapally Assistant Commissioner of Police D. Rajendran that the police team was able to trap the two. Their area of operation includes Kollam and Alappuzha districts. The two were produced before a magistrate court at Karungapally and remanded to the district jail here.
