It was time for placement drives

HUBLI: After the annual day celebrations, it was time for placement drives in a few colleges in the twin cities while in a few institutions it was time for sensitising students and their parents on the career options before them.

As many as 320 students from 20 colleges in Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum, Davangere, Tumkur, Ilakal, and Bagalkot participated in the placement drive organised by KLE Society's Institute of Management Studies and Research (IMSR) in Hubli.

While 150 students were from Finance specialisation, 125 were from Marketing and 45 from Human Resources specialisation. And to screen them, officials of 10 leading business organisations, including IndusInd Bank, ING Vysya Bank, Sharekhan, India Infoline, Shoppers' Stop, and Getit Services turned up. While Ms. Ameena of Shoppers' Stop was happy with the kind of candidates she found during the drive, Suresh Naganur of ING Vysya Bank was happy with the improved communication skills and aptitude of the participating candidates. Mahantesh of JRG Securities said the drive had once again proved that there was no dearth of talent in north Karnataka. IMSR had organised the placement drive in association with Purpleleap of Bangalore.

Director of IMSR P.B. Roodagi, and Placement Officer Rajan Raykar coordinated the event.

The job fair organised by Oxford College for BBA, BCA and B.Com, Hubli in association with Wipro during the last week, evoked good response. As many as 73 students of B.Sc., and BCA from Hubli, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag participated in the job fair. The selection was done on the basis of a written test and a HR round. Finally, seven students got shortlisted by the company, BCA coordinator of the college Ramamurti said.

Awareness

Sri Kadasiddheshwar Arts and HS Kotambri Science Institute, Hubli, had organised an awareness programme for students who just passed SSLC examination and their parents. The one-day awareness programme was aimed at sensitising the students and their parents on various career options available to the students.

Principal of the PU College P.G. Patil, lecturers Sujata S. Patted, and Anupama Shirali gave details about the Pre-University Courses in Arts and Science streams and what students could take up afterwards. Degree college principal Vidya Kinagi presided over the sessions. There was a book exhibition as part of the event.

Fund for a hall

The role of philanthropists in developing private educational institutions in north Karnataka had been immense. Last week another philanthropist came forward for the cause of education.

Lalithamma Erappa Honnalli donated Rs. 15 lakh to BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli for building a seminar hall on the campus in memory of her husband Erappa S. Honnalli, who was an alumnus of the college. Ms. Honnalli handed over the cheque to principal Ashok Shettar at a simple function.
