PALAKKAD: South Zone defeated North Zone by six wickets and lifted the State under-19 inter-zone cricket title at the Fort Maidan here on Tuesday. It was a fine comeback by the eventual winner, which after having surrendered 68-run first innings lead on Monday, shot out North Zone for 81 for nine in its second essay and then raced to win by knocking off the required 149 runs for victory. South Zone finished its matches with a tally of 12 points. In the other match played at the KCA stadium in Perinthalmanna, KCA XI defeated Central Zone by an innings and 62 runs. Central Zone which began its second innings with a deficit of 215 runs was all out for 153 in 50.3 overs with Saly V. Samson returning figures of five for 35. The scores: North Zone 336 and 81 for nine in 32.4 overs (Abhishek Mohan five for 37) lost to South Zone 268 and 151 for four in 32.4 overs (Athul Diamond 78, Bijo Philip 36), at Palakkad.Central Zone 159 and 153 in 50.3 overs (Anoop Mohan 55, Saly V. Samson five for 35) lost to KCA XI 374 for 9, at Perinthalmanna. State probables Abhishek Mohan has been selected to lead Kerala in the National under-19 cricket championship, wherein the State is to figure in the Elite group in the coming season. The rest of the probables for the training camp beginning on June 1 are as follows: Akshay Chandran, Athul Diamond, R.S. Renjith, Nikhilesh Surendran, Syam Shankar, Salmon Sebastian, Nithin Jacob Philip, Aquib Fasal, Navaneeth Jose, Mohammed Ashik, Saly V. Samon, P.K. Midhun, Jackon Cleetus, Fabid Farooq, Ajaya Kumar, Iqlas Naha, S. Rasheed, Bijo Philip, Akshay Jothin, Vishnu N. Babu, Shivraj, Rahul Das, Sreerag Sanal, Anoop Mohan, B. Balu and Mohammed Azaruddin. Thiruvananthapuram enters final Host Thiruvananthapuram scored an easy 91-run win over Kozhikode and entered the final of the State under-16 cricket championships at the Medical College ground here on Tuesday. In the final to be played on Thursday, Thiruvananthapuram will take on Pathanamthitta which overcame Idukki by 49 runs in the second semifinal at Public Stadium, Thiruvalla. The scores: Thiruvananthapuram 259 in 46.5 overs (Umar ul Farooq 68, Ajil Das 54, Vysakh Chandran 53, Shebin Basha three for 33) bt Kozhikode 168 in 46 overs (K.C. Akshay 33), at Thiruvananthapuram. Pathanmthitta 164 in 45.4 overs (Subin 45, Vipul 38, Vishnu Vishwam three for 25) bt Idukki 115 in 40.3 overs (Albin Aliyas 42, Roshan Raju three for 25).
