Bhadrulla Hassan killed in road accident

Karwar: Four persons, including Badrulla Hassan Mohallim (75), president of Tanjim organisation and Muslim leader from Bhatkal, were killed in a road accident on Tuesday at Kumta. Four others were seriously injured in the accident.

Dr. Hassan was on his way to Dandeli from Bhatkal. The car in which he was travelling reportedly collided with a lorry that was going to Kerala from Gujarat at Alvekodi on the outskirts of Kumta.

Apart from Dr. Hassan, the others who were killed in the accident were his son-in-law Aslam Gavai (35), daughters Tarannu Gavai (32), and Jihannur Saleem Afiska (35). His son Arakkam (29) who was working in Indian Air Force had been seriously injured. Badrulla's grandchildren Jufra (8), daughter Mugania (32), and his car driver Salman (28) were seriously injured and shifted to medical college hospital in Manipal. Dr. Hassan's another grandchild Aseel Aslam Gavai (1) escaped unhurt in the accident. Dr. Hassan's family was travelling to Dandeli to participate in a function at a relative's house and was planning to have lunch at the house of their relative Mallik Saab at Kumta.

The lorry which was carrying fish to Kerala collided head-on with the car. M. Narayana, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhatkal, visited the spot.

Dr. Hassan was the vice-president of Bhatkal Municipality for two terms..
