It will be attended by 400 members A human chain will be formed COIMBATORE: The fifth annual State convention of Federation of Children's Movement for Right to Participation (FCMRP) will be held here on May 26 and May 27 under the theme ‘Ensuring Children's Participation at All Levels of Governance'. The first two were held in Chennai, the third in Madurai, and the fourth in Puducherry. To be held at Nirmala Matriculation Higher Secondary School, the convention will be attended by 400 children members of the Federation. Protection The Federation, which functions under the aegis of the Forum for Promotion of Child Participation (FPCP), works for the protection and promotion of child rights with specific reference to right to participation. C. Jim Jesudoss, State Convenor of FPCP, said there was a wide gap between the government and children. “Even though the children population is nearly 44 per cent, their representation in decision making and policy formulations is very poor. The convention will be used as a platform to create awareness among the children through the young (student) facilitators who have been trained by the members of the FPCP,” he said. The convention will be inaugurated by C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University. R.M. Ramathal, former chairperson, State Women's Commission, D. Rajan, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Coimbatore, will be among those who will speak. The valediction on May 27 will constitute a human chain and rally by children. It will begin at the school premises and end at the Red Cross Society Building. N. Markandan, former Vice-Chancellor, Gandhigram Rural University, will address the students.
