NPCL holds drill near Kaiga

Karwar: The Nuclear Power Corporation Limited (NPCL) with the help of Uttara Kannada district administration on Wednesday conducted an off-site emergency preparedness at Harur village near Kaiga.

The exercise was a part of mandatory regulatory requirement and to keep the district administration and NPCL updated about the actions in case of any emergency. It is being conducted once in two years, the sources from NPCL said. During the exercise, all the officials concerned of the district administration and Kaiga site carried out mock actions as per the approved emergency plan.

Thirteen observers comprising representatives from National Disaster Management Authority New Delhi, Crisis Management Group of NPCL, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre made independent observation on the exercise. The emergency planning zone comprised the areas within the 16 km diameter of the Kaiga plant.
