Bypolls: UDF wins 6 seats

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF has won six of the nine local body wards where by-elections were held on Tuesday. Two seats went to the LDF and one to the BJP. The UDF and the LDF wrested one seat of each other.

KPCC general secretary N.Venugopal, who was in charge of the local bodies, described it as a shining victory and proof of the fact that the UDF had not lost the support of the people. It was a fitting reply to the CPI(M) which tried to play down the UDF's victory in the Assembly election.

Meanwhile, State Election Commissioner K.Sasidharan disqualified a panchayat member and four former members under the Anti-Defection Act.
