“Telangana Ranabheri” successful

Staff Reporter

Attempts of TRS activists to disrupt meeting in Karimnagar go in vain

KARIMNAGAR: Undeterred by several attempts made by TRS activists to obstruct the meeting, the Telangana TDP Forum leaders successfully organised the “Telangana Ranabheri” here on Wednesday night.

Aimed at scoring a political point that TDP indeed favoured separate Telangana, the leaders braved missiles from pro-Telangana activists and addressed the impressive turnout. The meeting also sent out a message to detractors like senior MLA, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, that they could hold a meeting in Telangana under the party banner. Party leaders E. Dayakar Rao, M. Narasimhulu, T. Devender Goud, and A. Revanth Reddy had to face fierce protests from Telangana activists in their journey from Hyderabad to Karimnagar. They tried to obstruct the convoy and hurled stones and eggs. Mr. Revanth Reddy was targeted specially after TV channels showed him shifting a rifle into his vehicle while starting from NTR Bhavan.

In spite of stiff resistance from the pro-Telangana activists who even set afire TDP office here, the TDP leaders and others reached the town in large numbers. Even as the Telangana activists were removing the TDP flags and festoons, the party cadres successfully painted the town “yellow” with party flags, banners, and posters again.

Chaos prevailed at the meeting when Mr. Revanth Reddy started speaking, with some of the activists snatching away his mike and daring him to show his weapon. Police intervened and shifted them away not before TDP cadres gave them a thrashing. But the activists continued hurling eggs from outside the grounds onto the dais.

The stage was decorated with the pictures of Telangana state map, party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, and its founder N.T. Rama Rao. They paid tributes to NTR and observed two minutes silence in memory of Telangana martyrs.

Mr. Revanth Reddy launched a scathing attack on TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao accusing him of reaching a secret understanding with the Congress and defaming the TDP for political gains. He flayed Mr. Rao for reposing faith in Congress which betrayed the people of the region in 1969 and now. He was also critical of Dr. Reddy for asking them to conduct meeting without the party flag and photo of its president.
