Feeling rebuffed:Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa speaking to presspersons at HUBLI: Taking exception to the advisory sent by Home Minister P. Chidambaram to the Karnataka Government, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said the Union Home Minister has started a new tradition. Speaking to presspersons on his way to Bagalkot district at Hubli airport, Mr. Yeddyurappa said he would meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister soon and discuss the issue with them. Mr. Yeddyurappa said that by taking such a step, the UPA had resorted to “blackmailing tactics” against the Karnataka Government. The Central Government, which itself was mired in controversy over the 2-G spectrum allocation scam, had no moral right to send an advisory to the State Government on tackling corruption, he said. He said he would like to know from the Home Minister whether any such advisory had been sent to any other State Government that was facing more serious problems of governance. “According to me, the advisory was aimed at causing embarrassment to the State Government as the Congress party in Karnataka is facing the question of its existence now,” the Chief Minister said. He added that he would consult with the Chief Ministers of States where the NDA allies were governing, and if possible, would take them to meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. To a query on whether Speaker K.G. Bopaiah would be asked to step down in the wake of the observations made by the Supreme Court while dismissing the disqualification of the 11 BJP MLAs, the Chief Minister said that Mr. Bopaiah would continue as Speaker of the Assembly for the remaining two years of the BJP Government. On a query on ‘Operation Lotus', Mr. Yeddyurappa said there was no need for him to continue the exercise now. He clarified that he was forced to undertake the step because of the efforts made by the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) to topple the BJP Government. Aasare houses ready Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Government had planned to build 59,000 houses for the flood-hit people under the Aasare scheme and the construction of 46,000 houses had been completed. “Of them, 40,000 are ready and I have directed the district administrations to go ahead with the distribution to the beneficiaries,” he said. Minsiter's views Bellary Staff Correspondent writes: Responding to queries raised by presspersons after a series of functions to lay the foundation stones for various developmental works on Wednesday, Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy was of the view that the Congress had no moral right to send the advisory asking the Chief Minister to take note of the issues raised by the Governor in his report to the President. “If at all anybody has the right to talk about the functioning of the Yeddyurappa Government, it must be the people of the State,” he said. Mr. Reddy did not agree that the recent crisis had affected the developmental works in the State. He said that a lot of works had been taking place in Bellary district during the past three years, something not witnessed in the last 50 years, and it would continue in future.
