Childline would be of help in a district like Tirupur, where child labour thrives Tirupur: An emergency phone outreach service for children in distress has started functioning in the district. The facility, named ‘Childline' (Toll free No: 1098), was set up by Social Awareness and Voluntary Education, a Tirupur-based NGO, with the support of Union Ministry of Women and Child Development. SAVE director A Aloysious told reporters that anyone who came across incidents of child labour and other forms of exploitation of children could contact the ‘Childline'. This was to ensure children in distress could be rescued at the right time and p0roperly rehabilitated. “The idea is to ensure protection of rights of children by involving the public”, he said. Social welfare activists said that the Childline would be of immense help in a district like Tirupur where child labour existed in many segments of textile production chain.
