Reclaimed land to be used for cultivation State, Centre to share cost of project Bangalore: The State Government has signed a five-year agreement with the Central Government for implementing a land reclamation project in command area development authority (CADA) region at a cost of Rs. 603 crore. The project would be implemented for land reclamation in regions such as Tungabhadra, Malaprabha, Ghataprabha Cauvery Upper Krishna, Upper Bhadra and Shimoga Irrigation Project Zone. ‘Filled with debris' Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai told presspersons here on Wednesday that the project would help reclaim one lakh hectare area which has been filled by a variety of materials, including construction debris. The land reclaimed under the project would be used for cultivation by farmers. The State Government and the Centre would share the cost equally, he said. Funds The Centre has sanctioned Rs. 160 crore for the project in 2011-12 and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs. 80 crore for the same, Mr. Bommai said. The allocation for CADA has been increased from Rs. 121 crore in 2010-11 to Rs. 760 crore in 2011-12.
