BANGALORE: Nestled in a cosy basement in 4th T Block, Jayanagar, Grameena Angadi is clearly an artisan-friendly store. Started last month by Grameena Karakushala Udyama this veritable grotto that stocks countless handmade goods and condiments contributes a good deal to improve the economic conditions of the rural unemployed. There are more than 1,000 artisan families dependent on his store. The store sells cotton kurtas, saris, dress materials, Channapatna toys, pickles, natural cosmetics and assorted decorative pieces though the items that fly off the shelves are herbal juices, terra cotta jewellery and lavancha (vetiver) products. Exhibition An added attraction now is an exhibition of award-winning photographs and prints donated by Shilpakala Academy and Lalit Kala Akademi, which are up for sale as well.
