Officials seize tractor, five trucks engaged in illegal sand extraction

Hassan: The Hassan tahsildar and officials of the Mines and Geology Department on Wednesday seized a tractor, three coracles and five trucks in connection with illegal sand extraction.

Tahsildar K. Mathai, acting on a tip-off, visited Kandali village in Hassan taluk and seized the tractor and three coracles used to extract sand from the Yagachi.

Notified area

Officials from the department said that the sand was being extracted from a place which was not notified for sand extraction.

The department handed over the tractor to the Hassan City police for further investigation.

They also seized five trucks transporting sand near Channapatna in Hassan taluk.

Permits

The officers said that the truck drivers did not possess permits.

Mr. Mathai said their documents would be verified and a penalty would be levied on the offenders.
