Mumbai: Hindi film actor Bipasha Basu on Thursday paid Rs. 12,600 as customs duty at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport after she flew in from London.
“After we screened her baggage, we found goods worth Rs.60,000. The exemption limit is Rs.25,000. So we charged her customs duty on goods worth Rs.35,000. She paid Rs.12,600 and took the goods with her,” a customs official told The Hindu.
He denied that she was detained at the airport.
Ms. Basu issued a brief statement saying: “It was just a routine check at the airport and many others were being checked as well. I paid [some] Rs.12,000 as taxes against some personal goods. I think the customs team is doing an excellent job.”
