UPSC rank holder bats for transparent administration

Special Correspondent

S. Rajesh

PUDUKOTTAI: S.Rajesh (26), who has secured 232-nd rank in the UPSC examination, has brought laurels to the region. Hailing from Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, he had his schooling in Pudukottai district and continued his engineering course in the Amrita Institute of Technology and Science, Anna University in 2006, and later pursued MBA at the Bharathidasan Institute of Management in Tiruchi.

“It was during my MBA that I decided to prepare for the UPSC. I prepared hard for about four hours in the night, studying every available material in sociology and public administration – options for my main examination,” he says. Sociology was his option for prelims.

He has cracked the test in his maiden attempt. He attributes his success to the articles and editorials in The Hindu and Frontline. “I could fare well in my essay paper on ‘mining in tribal areas' because of the extensive and valid materials I got from The Hindu and few other journals,” he said.

He feels that people are not fully aware of various welfare schemes being implemented by the Central and State government. For instance, not all eligible farmers availed themselves agri credit schemes. His priority would be to sensitise the masses to various welfare programmes and also to ensure transparency in administration.

Avoiding red-tapism and taking administration to the door steps of the needy were some of his objectives.

His father M.Soundararajan is an Administrative Officer in LIC of India, and mother, S.Saroja is an employee of Canara Bank at Mukkanamalaipatti branch .
