Tamang murder: GJM youth activist arrested

KOLKATA: A member of the central committee of the Gorkha Janamukti Yuva Morcha, the GJM's youth wing, has been arrested in connexion with the murder of Madan Tamang, a prominent leader of the region and then president of the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League in Darjeeling in May last year.

Dipen Maley who was arrested from his house in Pokraibong in Darjeeling district by a team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials was produced in a court in Darjeeling on Thursday. He was remanded to ten days in CBI custody.

With his arrest, the number of those arrested in connection with the Tamang's killing has risen to 10.

The CBI took over charge of investigations into the murder from the State's Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CBI is also inquiring into the escape from the CID's custody of Nikole Tamang, a GJM activist and prime accused in the murder case. Nikole Tamang had escaped from Pintail Village near Siliguri while in custody a few days after his arrest in August 2010.
