High Court order on construction of drains

Special Correspondent

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday extended the time for completing the second and third phases of the construction of drains on the K.P. Vallon Road in the city till the end of the financial year 2012.

The Kochi Corporation submitted before the court that the first phase of the construction was over and the agreement with the earlier contractor had been terminated.

The corporation had undertaken before the High Court that the drains would be completed at the earliest when a petition filed by the residents'association of South Kadavanthra came up for hearing.

According to the association, though the roads dug up for laying the drinking water pipes to West Kochi areas had been repaired and tarred, the damaged drains had not been repaired. The corporation took steps to repair and construct the damaged drains following the filing of the writ petition.
