NTPC Simhadri has set a benchmark in project gestation period, he says ‘Accord priority to CSR activities'

VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal on Thursday said NTPC Simhadri had set a benchmark in the project gestation period by commissioning the 500 MW Unit-III of Stage-II within 39 months. Speaking after inaugurating the coal handling plant control room of Simhadri Stage-II near here, he said it showed that the team of NTPC Simhadri had the inherent potential to achieve amazing results. He called upon them to expedite the commissioning of Unit-IV and also commercial operations of Unit III of Simhadri Stage-II, which was synchronized in March 2011. Inaugurating the coal handling plant control room at NTPC Simhadri Stage-II near Parawada, he said corporate social responsibility (CSR) should be given top priority along with maintaining operational excellence. Mr. Venugopal emphasised that the CSR activities must be guided by a vision and ensure inclusive growth in a sustainable manner for the people residing around the plants. He also appreciated the efforts of NTPC in implementing various CSR programmes at Simhadri as well as Ramagundam for the socio-economic development of the people in the vicinity of the projects. Mr. Venugopal, during his brief visit, chaired a review meeting on Simhadri and Ramagundam of NTPC at the plant site. The meeting was attended by I.C.P. Kesary, Joint Secretary (Thermal), S.P. Singh, Director (Human Resource), A.N. Dave, Regional Executive Director (South), N.K. Sharma, Executive Director, Jayadeb Nanda, Regional Executive Director (South), P.S. Radhakrishna, General Manager (Projects), Simhadri and others. While appreciating NTPC Simhadri and Ramagundam for generating power at 90 per cent plant load factor consistently by following best O&M practices, he urged the NTPC team to further replicate their track record in operation and maintenance by faster execution of the projects to augment power capacity in the country and compete with private players.
