R. Vimal Kumar
The C-D ratio is the proportion of loan assets created from the deposits received A high C-D ratio would enhance the potential for greater credit flow
Tirupur: The credit- to- deposit (CD ratio of banks in the district hit a whopping 173 per cent at the end of the 2010-11 fiscal indicating a higher utilisation of loan-assets from the deposits. “This is the highest C-D ratio in the state for the period,” Lead District Manager R. Rajagopal told The Hindu.
The C-D ratio is the proportion of loan assets created from the deposits received.
Banking sources said that the high credit as a proportion of deposits is an indication of good capital absorption in the district.
The district has a total of 46 scheduled commercial banks, including nationalised and private sector banks, one regional rural bank (Pallavan Grama Bank) and an array of cooperative credit institutions including the primary agricultural cooperative societies involved in the credit disbursement.
Sustaining of a high C-D ratio would enhance the potential for greater credit flow in the district, banking sources pointed out.
The deposits stood at Rs. 7,902.02 crore and outstanding advances at Rs 13,642.74 crore in the district on March 31, 2011.
Of the outstanding advances, Rs 7,708.9 crore was in the priority sector comprising agriculture, service and small and medium scale enterprises sectors with the remaining been disbursed to non-priority sectors.
