Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government's plan to make public the agreement on the Singur project — signed in 2007 between Tata Motors, the previous West Bengal government and its apex industry promotion agency, the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) — has been delayed.
Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee on Thursday said he held a meeting with top officials to examine the legal implications of putting the agreement in the public domain. “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked me to study the document and I am still doing that. However, it appears that there are some legal complications involved in the entire process which need to be looked into.”
He told journalists after the meeting that there were almost 54 parties involved in the entire project (the vendors of Tata Motors). Some of them seem to have had only a token existence.
Indicating that he had taken legal counsel on the matter, Mr. Chatterjee said that fortunately Anindya Mitra, tipped to succeed Balai Ray as the next Advocate-General, was familiar with the matter.
