Adventure sports to promote tourism

Gliders were used for a demonstration flight at Valparai as part of the efforts to promote tourism in the hill town.

VALPARAI: In a bid to promote tourism in a lesser known hill station, Valparai Tourism Development Council and Valparai Taulk Merchant Association joined hands with the Sports Aviation Association in Chennai to bring adventure sports to the hill station.

According to V. Uthamaraj, Secretary of the Tourism Development Council a few years ago, summer festival provided an opportunity for promoting tourism by conducting flower show, air show, dog show and besides adventure sports events such as zorbing, kayaking, coracling, rappelling and bike race.

As part of an initiative this year to promote tourism, hang gliders were brought in for demonstration flights on Tuesday. The hang gliding sport was exhibited by trainer S. Kanagaraj and aeronautical engineers P.Arun Prasad, K.Anand, T.Saravana Kumar A test flight demonstration was done on Tuesday.
