VISAKHAPATNAM: Eminent personalities and their contribution to various fields from Bengal were remembered at a meeting organised by Viswa Sahitya Lalitha Kala Vedika at Visakha Public Library here on Friday. Addressing a small gathering, vedika president G. Eswara Varma elucidated the contributions made by Rabindranath Tagore, Ravi Shankar, S.D. Burman, Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, and Satyajit Ray in the field of art, culture, education and social reforms. He also spoke how the then undivided Bengal spearheaded the revolutionary and nationalist movement during the freedom struggle. He pointed out that both the national anthem and the national song was penned by two Bengalis -- Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
