SCR faults claims of ‘eunuchs victim'

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) has stated that Nimmala Ranjith Kumar, who claimed that he was pushed out of Ratnachal Express train at Eluru station on May 9 by eunuchs, did not travel by that train at all and he had suffered injuries when he tried to alight the slowly-moving No. 18495 Rameshwaram-Bhubaneswar Express train after Eluru.

No material evidence

In response to a news item published in these columns on Friday, based on a report of the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission, the SCR authorities explained that the documentary evidence collected as part of the preliminary investigation into the alleged incident so far revealed that there was no material evidence about Mr. Ranjith Kumar's claimed travel by Ratnachal Express.

As per the statement of victim's father N. Narayana Rao recorded by Sub-Inspector of Government Railway Police at Eluru, Mr. Ranjith Kumar fell down from the train near Alluri Sita Rama Raju Hospital as he could not get down at Eluru railway station and someone called 108 ambulance and the victim was admitted to Government General hospital there.

Enquiries with TTEs of Ratnachal Express and gangman revealed that no passenger by name Ranjith Kumar had travelled by the train on that day and there was no incident of eunuchs throwing out a passenger reported.

Based on the timing of the victim's fall, it could be concluded that he was travelled by Rameshwaram-Bhubaneswar train which did not have Eluru as a halt.

‘Concocted version'

The train passed through Eluru station at 0657 hrs on May 9 and the Ratnachal Express arrived at the station at 0725 hrs and left at 0727 hrs. A railway gangman had first noticed the victim at about 2 km away from the station at 0703 hrs. The railway authorities felt that the victim and his relatives' version was an after-thought and concocted account.
