PANAJI: The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), body spearheading agitation opposing government grants to English-medium primary schools, on Friday gave a call for Goa bandh on June 6, the day of school opening for the new academic year, to protest against the decision of the government to change its policy and give grants to primary schools in English medium.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the manch blocked the traffic on the National Highway at Porvorim in north Goa and at Kadamba Road in Margao in south Goa protesting against Goa government's decision on Wednesday to change its policy of no grants to English-medium primary schools.
Led by the former Chief Minister Shashikala Kakodkar, the manch has claimed the support of different political parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Maharashtrawadi Goamntak Party, and different social organisations for its bandh call.
