Rural students make it big in Dindigul district

DINDIGUL: Rural students of the district have excelled in the SSLC examinations, results of which were announced on Friday. As in the HSC examinations, girls have outperformed boys.

P. Yuva Sri, student of Government Higher Secondary School, Natham, emerged the district topper by scoring 493 marks, pushing aided and private school students to the second and third positions.

P. Priyanka of Our Lady HSS, Dindigul, shared the second rank with P. Harikrishnan of MSP HSS, Dindigul, with 492 marks each. Four students — R. Arivazhagan of MSP HSS, N. Vaishali of Vidyaparthi HSS, Seelapadi, S. Rajesh of CSMA HSS, M.M. Kovilur, and K. Madhumithasri of St. Joseph's HSS, Dindigul — shared the third rank with 491 marks each.

Yuva Sri, Harikrishnan, Vaishali, Arivazhagan and Priyanka want to take up medicine. Rajesh and Madhumithasri want to become IAS officers.

Many toppers belonged to families engaged in small scale trade or grocery shops or in farming activities.

In Matriculation exams, Sri Krishna Matriculation School in Oddanchatram produced two district toppers this year. R. Subhashini of the school scored 491 marks and emerged the district topper. F. Annette Joseph of the same school scored 489 marks and to take the second spot. M. Lavanya of St. Joseph's Girls MHSS, Dindigul, bagged the third prize by scoring 488 marks.

Pass percentage

Pass percentage in Dindigul revenue district was 88 per cent — 89 per cent for Dindigul educational district and 84 per cent for Palani educational district. Of the 24,489 candidates who took the examinations, 22,609 passed them.

In matriculation stream, the pass percentage was 99 per cent — 98 per cent for Dindigul educational district and 99 per cent for Palani educational district.

About 1,999 candidates among the total 2,025 candidates passed the matriculation exam.
